What I stated about X might be my perception, so I wouldn't say it
happens quickly in X. It also requires touchpad usage, but not so
intense as in console mode.

i8kmon service is needed in both X and console to trigger the issue
(i8kmon loads the module during start if it's not loaded and it
doesn't unload it after being stopped). Answering to your question, if
I stop the service and the module is loaded I can't reproduce the
issue no matter how fast I use the touchpad during an X session.

I thought I was wrong when I booted in console mode with no X process
running because it was really hard to make the error happen.

I'd say i8k module and i8kmon service have something that triggers the
issue with my hardware.
