Package: linux-2.6
Version: 3.2.12-1
Severity: normal

On Sony VAIO VPCYA1V9E, the acer-wmi module is automatically
loaded. It then misdetects an rfkill switch and keeps WLAN
disabled all the time. I can reenable WLAN by unloading the
acer-wmi module.

When the hardware WIRELESS switch is in the ON position:

% rfkill list
0: sony-wifi: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: no
1: sony-bluetooth: Bluetooth
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: no
2: acer-wireless: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: yes
	Hard blocked: no
3: hci0: Bluetooth
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: no
4: phy0: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: no

When the hardware WIRELESS switch is in the OFF position:

% rfkill list
0: sony-wifi: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: yes
1: sony-bluetooth: Bluetooth
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: yes
2: acer-wireless: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: yes
	Hard blocked: no
4: phy0: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: yes

"rfkill unblock 2" seems to have no effect.

I had already worked around this bug by writing "blacklist acer-wmi"
in /etc/modprobe.d/local-blacklist.conf. However, I noticed
this entry in the linux-2.6 (3.2.12-1) changelog:

    - acer-wmi: No wifi rfkill on Lenovo machines (Closes: #655941)

and thought I should report this bug so that you can perhaps
add a similar fix for Sony VAIO too.

In /sys/devices/virtual/wmi/, I have the following GUIDs,
two of which are recognized by acer-wmi.c:

05901221-D566-11D1-B2F0-00A0C9062910
40D1BF71-A82D-4E59-A168-3985E03B2E87
431F16ED-0C2B-444C-B267-27DEB140CF9C (AMW0_GUID2)
67C3371D-95A3-4C37-BB61-DD47B491DAAB (AMW0_GUID1, modalias)
D9F41781-F633-4400-9355-601770BEC510

http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.drivers.platform.x86.devel/2914
appears to search for specific ACPI devices and remove the rfkill
feature if it finds any of them together with AMW0_GUID2. On this
VAIO model, acer-wmi could perhaps detect \_SB.PCI0.LPCB.SNC,
which has Name (_HID, "SNY5001"); or \_SB.PCI0.LPCB.PS2M, which
has Name (_HID, "SNYSYN0004"). There is no _CID that begins with
"SNY".
