(purple noise in alternating violet and magenta horizontal ribbons, with
a lighter square ~5 ribbons tall near the center)

(a section of black, above some white, some snow, some white, some snow
filling most of the screen, then some alternating violet and magenta
horizontal ribbons, interrupted by a jagged black band)

Did you eventually end up with a successful install? What kernel and
userspace are on this machine now?

If you still have a setup reproducing the bug:

 - Is firmware-linux-nonfree installed?
 - Please attach output from "reportbug --template xserver-xorg-video-radeon".

Thanks and hope that helps,
Jonathan
