Bug#640293: Similar problems on Compaq Presario C760EM

Hi!

I've been experiencing this lately, don't really know when it started as the
problem is sporadic, it seemed to me that 3.2.0 rcs (tested rc4 and rc7)
were worse on this than current 3.1, so after testing the 3.2 rcs I'm back
to current testing linux-image-3.1.0-1-amd64 3.1.5-1.

The machine runs testing and usualy the fan vents at its lowest speed even
on iddle levels, but sometimes when you come back from hibernation the fan
is completely off (no noise, no air out of the fan area), after some time
(time depends on your load, but even when iddle you'll reach this) the fan
starts spinning at emergency speed until it cools a bit and then stops
again, when it heats again it does the same again. When it is doing this the
temps are really high and the case is very hot.

If the machine is too hot I hibernate again and power it on again and it
starts working normally, which means that the fan is spinning faster than
normal (as the system is still too hot) but not on emergency speed, and as
it cools it goes back to slow speed like it should.

It is curious to me that hibernating again fixes the problem, however one
can say that when you wake from the second hibernation the machine is too
hot, so it is not a normal wake from hibernation with a cool system and
maybe that temp is making the difference here :-?

Don't know what else to add, if you feel like I was not clear enough I can
try to explain it some other way.

BTW: acpi -V shows this right now:
Adapter 0: on-line
Thermal 0: ok, 55.0 degrees C
Thermal 0: trip point 0 switches to mode critical at temperature 100.0 degrees C
Cooling 0: LCD 0 of 10
Cooling 1: Processor 0 of 7
but I don't think this infi is ok, at least not the cooling levels, fan is
running right now. Is there some other way to get more accurate values for
this?

Regards...
