This patch was applied upstream, but resulted in a regression
<https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14844> and so was reverted.

Stable version 2.6.32.12 included a workaround for this bug and was
merged into Debian version 2.6.32-12.  Although the error message will
appear once after each boot, the driver should still work.  Does it work
for you now?
