The pegasus adapter comes up with a valid MAC both from a cold boot and when hot-plugged. Based on plugging a little LED USB lamp into both the PC and the NSLU2, the power behavior on the buses is significantly different -- the NSLU2 supplies power to its bus continuously starting within a fraction of a second from the power being turned on and keeps it on even across reboots, while the PC's bus loses and regains power at least twice during a normal boot.
