well this is the explanation, this root is much to small,
see if you find an old linux-image you can uninstall:

 dpkg -l | grep linux-image

for example:
 dpkg -P linux-image-2.6.18-5-amd64

well that is not an error of linux-image as there is clearly not
enough space for it to be installed.

please ask your local linux guru to resize your partitions
and be sure to do a backup before!!
otherwise ask on a debian user mailinglist for support.
