Sorry for the late response. Many USB mass storage devices are not fully
compliant and require various quirks. 

For starters, please test an 2.6.31-rcX kernel from trunk:
http://wiki.debian.org/DebianKernel 

If the problem persists, please file a bug report at bugzilla.kernel.org,
so that the necessary quirk can be identified and associated to your
device.
