Bug#485465: retaining brightness state through power offs on Thinkpad r50e

My (mostly useless inconclusive) observations on retaining brightness
state through power offs, with the poweroff(8) command with
2.6.26-1-686 stock kernel:

Poweroff used in the dimmest state retains the dimmest state as seen
at the next lilo prompt. However sometimes not. Sometimes one needs
three to four Fn Ends there at the lilo prompt to get to dimmest state.

At this (lilo prompt) point rebooting with ALT-CTRL-DEL retains the
dimmest state.

(However you will notice that ALT-CTRL-DEL spins down and back up one's
disk. Since the machine had just been turned on and the fan was not
yet busy cooling a hot machine, I was able to hear this fact.)

Anyway, little of the above is something Debian can change.
