Bug#494007: binary firmware in drivers/char/drm/r128_cce.c

Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.26-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

drivers/char/drm/r128_cce.c (licensed under BSD-style terms) contains a small
buffer with code in binary form:

/* CCE microcode (from ATI) */
static u32 r128_cce_microcode[] = {
	[...]

As per the comment, it appears to be copyrighted by ATI, although the copyright
header doesn't mention that.

This could possibly be infringing ATI's copyright. Assuming it's not, it's
still in violation of the DFSG.
