This appears to be identical to the problem originally reported in
Debian bug #244474.  Linux PPC kernel 2.4.26 renders tkmixer unusable;
other mixers perform properly.  Downgrading to the previously
installed kernel (2.4.20) eliminates the problem.

tkmixer is not pretty, but verified that it starts up and it seems
to work in a quick test. thus closing
