Which kernel should I use on a Dual Processor 10 GB RAM Intel server?
Hello,
I have got a Dell Poweredge 2850 Rackserver with two 3.0 GHZ Xeon CPUs and 10
GB of RAM running Debian Sarge and kernel 2.4.27 (SMP). The system recognizes
only 4 GB of RAM and I want to upgrade to Debian 4.0 (etch) and kernel
2.6.18. I need a kernel that recognizes both CPUs (SMP) and that handles all
of my RAM memory.
In Etch I found linux-image-2.6.18-4-686-bigmem, which supports 2-64 GB RAM.
Does this kernel provide symmetric multiprocessing or do I need to build a
custom kernel?
Regards,
