Confused? Thats why I included the trace ... Sorry, I made a typo, I missed an (s) in the subject. So to recap (1) I installed package linux-headers-2.6.18-4-k7(2) I attempted to compile an out of tree kernel module. It complained about a missing version.h, specifically, gcc could not find "/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.18-4-k7/include/linux/version.h" on my computer
(3) This file _is_ in the deb "linux-headers-2.6.18-4-k7_2.6.18.dfsg.1-12_i386.deb", according to dpkg-deb -c and according to the packages Debian website.
(4) I extracted "./usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.18-4-k7/include/linux/version.h" from the deb using an archiving tool and put it in "/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.18-4-k7/include/linux" on my computer
(5) I was then able to compile an out of tree kernel module without any errors
(6) I would assume that I shouldn't have to get a file manually from a deb in order to compile a kernel module?
Do I need to refile the bug with the correct spelling in the subject? Or can this one be reopened?
