Bug#415859: xen-linux-system-2.6.18-4-xen-686: Prevents ALSA from finding soundcards
Package: xen-linux-system-2.6.18-4-xen-686
Version: 2.6.18.dfsg.1-11
Severity: normal
When I boot my system using this kernel, ALSA can't find either of my
soundcards. I have an AC97 and an M-Audio M44 (driver ice1712), both of
which work perfectly under the non-Xen stock kernel. Here's what I get
if I try to bring up ALSA with the Xen kernel:
Setting up ALSA...warning: 'alsactl restore' failed with error message
'alsactl: load_state:1327: No soundcards found...'...done.
Despite the fact that ALSA apparently can't find my soundcards, the
correct modules (and only the correct modules) for both cards are
automatically loaded during boot. I can't find any messages in syslog
concerning these modules, either positive or negative.
I've tried disabling Xen at startup, and that didn't make any
difference. I also tried disabling discover, in case that was doing
something weird at startup, but that didn't help either.
I thought it might be because I'm using a 686 kernel on an Athlon
machine (there doesn't seem to be a k7 Xen kernel available at the
moment). However, my soundcards also work using the stock, non-Xen 686
kernel, as well as the stock k7 kernel, so it seems there's nothing so
architecture-specific about my soundcards.
