Subject: linux-image-2.6.18-3-686: kacpid increasing load
Package: linux-image-2.6.18-3-686
Version: 2.6.18-7
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system
*** Please type your report below this line ***
kacpid has been known on my system to previously increase load to an
unusable
condition. I see the following errors multiple times in dmesg:
ACPI: Transitioning device [FAN1] to D3
ACPI: Unable to turn cooling device [c18c87ac] 'off'
I do not have acpi or acpid installed. In an effort to circumvent the
unusability of the system, I had edited my /boot/grub/menu.lst to
include the
paramaters noacpi and acpi=off to the kernel. This had worked fine so
far, until
I had upgraded the kernel using apt, and my menu.lst was overwritten
(presumably).
Thank you for your time, and dedicated hard work to the Debian GNU/Linux
operating system.

well noacpi boot arg is a known workaround for buggy manufacterer bios,
please bug your vendor for an bios update.
also you should write your grub boot args into the kopt line and than
just issue update-grub, that way your boot args will be added to each
boot line and will stay so on update linux-image.

closing as from our side there is not much to be done.
