kacpid has been known on my system to previously increase load to an
unusable
condition. I see the following errors multiple times in dmesg:
ACPI: Transitioning device [FAN1] to D3
ACPI: Unable to turn cooling device [c18c87ac] 'off'
I do not have acpi or acpid installed. In an effort to circumvent the
unusability of the system, I had edited my /boot/grub/menu.lst to
include the
paramaters noacpi and acpi=off to the kernel. This had worked fine so
far, until
I had upgraded the kernel using apt, and my menu.lst was overwritten
(presumably).
