OK I also get a freeze with the following kernel, coming from snapshots
archive as described in http://wiki.debian.org/DebianKernel :

ii linux-image-2.6.18-1-powerpc 2.6.18-2 Linux 2.6.18 image on uniprocessor 32-bit PowerPC

This time it freezes without me doing anything : I worked with it at home
(using bcm53xx for my network link) go watch TV and when I came back after
almost an hour, the box was freezed. :-(

One point which may be important is that it worked almost all day without
problem with the same kernel at my office (only difference is the network link
which is the wired one at office).

Do you want that I tried the -smp kernel version ?

Do you need to have access to my logs ?
