        I am assuming you are not trolling, but merely do not know the
 behaviour of the image preinst script.

        The difference is that first, if kernel image is going to
 overwrite something, it warns you: and does not proceed to change the
 kernel modules on disk unless you say yes. This question is asked
 unless the kernel modules have already been removed by the user, or
 the user has explicitly turned off the warning in
 /etc/kernel-img.conf. 

        Then, it send a note reminding the user to reboot. 

        So the kernel image does ask, and take action based on the
 answer. Which is, I think, the desired behaviour here as well.
