You are on a powermac system, and as thus, you should have goten the default
reply of yaboot to the mkvmlinuz question. Please do a :

  dpkg-reconfigure mkvmlinuz

and make sure you chose yaboot and not mkvmlinuz.

Then, please add a set -x to the front of /etc/kernel/postrm.d/mkvmlinuz, and
do a :

  dpkg-reconfigure linux-image-2.6.16-2-powerpc

and send us the output of this. This should just notice that you have yaboot
configured, and skip any mkvmlinuz invocation, and this script has not really
changed since like forever, so i don't understand what went wrong here, apart
maybe some mis-detection of the subarch, which would have the system default
to mkvmlinuz instead of yaboot.
