Please try the following at the shell prompt:
# modprobe ide-generic
# echo /dev/hda*
Are your partitions listed now? If so:
# exit
And your system should continue to boot normally.
If this works, this is a known issue that has already been fixed in a new
version of udev.
Could you please tell us which driver your hard disk controller needs?
