initrd-tools and booting root on lvm with new kernel

Hi!

I just tried to install a new kernel (2.6.13.2) and went into the problem that
there is no devfs support any more but initrd-tools expect that to mount/scan
for the root lvm volume.

A solution to fix this is to include udev in the initrd. I experimented with
another approach and using the sysfs information to mknod all devices
that are listed as block devices.

Find attached the changed mkinitrd where I tried this out. I finally lost
patience to get this working at all, but I think this may be a good starting
point if someone want to go on. So I post it here.

Cheers,

Jens
