>From memory, that option was disabled in 2.6.8 because of
performance concerns. In any case, whats done is done, and
Sarge is most definately done. 2.6.8 is now in maintenance mode
and is/has been removed from testing/unstable. 

If this is a sarge issue, I guess we are stuck with it.
If you are looking at testing/unstable, then please use the kernels
provided by the linux-2.6 source package (currently 2.6.12), which
should have CONFIG_SECURITY_SELINUX (and other related options)
enabled.
