Package: linux-source-2.6.12 Version: 2.6.12-1 Yesterday I experienced a fairly long pause during boot of my Toshiba Satellite A40 laptop. The pause happens while IDE interfaces are being probed as indicated in the fragment from kern.log below. The pause was long enough (about 10-15 seconds) that the first time I thought the system was hanging completely. Because my old kernel booted normally, I tried again. The problem occurred at least 4 times yesterday after both reboots and cold boots. I've never seen this problem with older kernels. This morning I cannot reproduce the problem :-P The difference in the logs is that now the line "ide4: Wait for ready failed before probe !" is missing. I'm not quite sure why the kernel is probing for _6_ IDE interfaces as I'm quite sure the laptop only has 2.
