i presume that you are not using hotplug/discover.
I most definitely use discover, as I found out the hard way
(/etc/rcS/S36discover caused a kernel panic by loading two
conflicting SCSI drivers, see bug #301486).
I have no module mousedev, but modprobe psmouse activated the mouse.
Now, why doesn't it work out of the box?
