Package: kernel-image-2.6.8-power4-di
Version: 0.73
Severity: important

The d-i installer (both rc2 and the Dec 19, 2004 daily build of the
busines card ISO) does not boot a Dual CPU (2.0 Ghz) G5 Power
Macintosh. I was advised to file a bug against the kernel-image (on
asking on debian-powerpc), so here it is.

On using the CD to boot and choosing 'install-power4' I see the kernel
load up (ramdisk etc.) and then I get a white screen with the
following text

>>>--start of copied text
... ok
opening display /pci@0,f0000000/NVDA,Parent@10/NVDA,Display-A@0...ok
copying OF device tree...done
starting cpu /cpus/PowerPC,G5...failed: 00000000
Initializing fake screen: NVDA,Display-B
Calling quiesce...
returning 0x014000000 from prom_init
<<<--end of copied text

Nothing changes if I use the 'video=ofonly' parameter. However, if I
boot with the default d-i powerpc kernel I get the following
*additional* text *after* the print out above

>>>--start of copied text

Invalid memory access at %SRR0: 00000000.01403b88 $SRR1: 10000000.00083030

To shut down, type "shut-down" and press return

<<<--end of copied text

and the system hangs (with fans getting louder as time goes on in each
case).

I'm completely new to the the powerpc port of Linux (Debian or
otherwise), but please let me know if there is anything I can do to
help.

Best regards,
Shyamal
