Bug#278957: kernel-image-2.6.8-9-amd64-k8-smp: Driver aic79xx for Adaptec AIC-7902B U320 SCSI controller fails to load
Package: kernel-image-2.6.8-9-amd64-k8-smp
Version: 2.6.8-5
Severity: normal
Hi,
I just gave the latest sarge installer a spin on the Sun Fire W2100z
workstation. While the installation went smoothly, I had trouble
installing the proper kernel for the system. The kernel-image package
installed and generated an initrd, but did not mount the root file
system on reboot. Inspection using a busybox initrd revealed that the
SCSI host controller driver, aic79xx, is loaded alright but doesn't do
anything at all.
The system is running nicely now, using a self-compiled kernel from
kernel-source-2.6.9 with the drivers for the root filesystem built in.
I'm afraid I will hardly have have time to investigate this further,
since we only got the machine for two weeks.
Regards, Jens.
