Mmh .. I've used the example file (just changed the username), and have
exactely the same problem (pppd now uses the pppoe plugin):

Oct 28 23:16:43 awak pppd[2478]: Connection terminated.
Oct 28 23:16:43 awak pppd[2478]: Connect time 36.6 minutes.
Oct 28 23:16:43 awak pppd[2478]: Sent 673400 bytes, received 1289494 bytes.
Oct 28 23:16:53 awak kernel: unregister_netdevice: waiting for ppp0 to become free. Usage count = 1

So effectively it looks like a kernel problem with ppp and tc.
