Bug#259185: Hangs at boot. Most likely because of ACPI settings.

Yep, the 'nolapic' param on boot seems mandatory on some compaq series
like presario 2100 and others with AMD chipset. 
It does not impact uniprocessor archs anyway.

Acpi is off by default on all
kernel images, so it's not a problem during installation, but
we should probably document in release notes some hints for those kind 
of problems.

That's definitively an upstream problem. The right patch for temporary 
disabling local apic during ACPI init has been lost in nowhere land after 
2.4.20 AFAIK ...
