Well, in this case, you could have CCed the list, but the bug report is
the way to go for not getting the information lost.

BTW, to the new kernel maintainer team, would it make sense to set the
maintainer field of all the kernel packages to this list ? This would be
a good way to achieve better integration, altough it may pollute the
list also.
