As implied in Lisandro's reply, plasmashell acts in many ways as an umbrella for the plasma applets (plasmoids). Since we can't see this behaviour, the most likely problem is that you are using a buggy non-standard applet that causes the oom. Please try to reproduce the issue either with a new user (without adding any new applet/desktop widget) or try removing some for your user.
