The problem I had wasn't instability, it was halved performance and some 
very strange issues in 3D programs, like Quake Live.  I posted about it on 
their forums: http://www.quakelive.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34946
I wasn't the only one who reported worse performance and other problems, 
but a downgrade fixed it...

I hope that the latest versions have these problems fixed, I'll probably 
try later this week.

I only use two virtual desktops, but thanks for the tip!
