Locking screen doesn't work

Hi,

I've added the kicker applet for locking the screen and logging out to my 
panel. But when I click on "lock session" then nothing happens. Even 
configuring the screensaver to start after an minute of inactivity doesn't 
work. The screensaver never starts.

Is this a known problem? What should I do about it?
