The following needs to be set for KDE to be the default desktop or you will have to run kde manually: /etc/alternatives/x-session-manager -> /usr/bin/startkde The manual way is to set /usr/bin/startkde in ~/.Xsession. Also, selecting KDE from the GDM menu should work, I am not sure what is causing the problem there. Chris
