Check ~/.xsession-errors for possible hints. In my experience this is most
often but not exclusively caused by having KDE libs of different versions
installed at the same time (i.e. 2.x and 3.x, or even different 3.x
Versions). You might want to check the versions of all involved (KDE)
Packages using dpkg -l and grep for example.
