The binary formats between the two compilers are incompatible. What the
./configure script does is build a small programme using qt and then test
whether it has worked. If the two compilers are different - thats why it
fails.

Well, I've had lots of problems - most of which seem to have been due to
mismatches and problems with the other debian libraries. Look at the various
other posts in this list I have made over the weekend to see what.
I still can't build kdepim and kdebindings and I am not sure my attempt at
koffice has worked properly - I don't seem to have enough .deb files (only
koffice and koffice-doc-html), and kdevelop has a whole load of error
messages I still have to check up on.
