How to handle ckeditor5?
Hey,
I'm in the Request Tracker (RT) Maintainers Team. The next major version of
Request Tracker will change from ckeditor4 to ckeditor5. As upstream ships a
minified version of ckeditor, we currently add the matching version of the
source for ckeditor4 and compile the minified file using ckbuilder.
I've looked at the ckeditor v5 releases, it appears they only release it as
minified code[0]. To create minified code, it appears to require either
their web interface, or to use npm. ckbuilder, which we've been using so far
doesn't appear to support v5 and they're going to drop webpack support soon.
While I see that the RT upstreams are aware of this, and have engaged with
the ckeditor devs on finding a path forward[1], they don't yet have a
solution implemented.
>From a naive search of Debian packages for files named "ckeditor", I can't
find any that have v5[2]. Searching our mailing lists, the only relevant
post I can find is a call for help on packaging ckeditor5, with no
response[3].
As I'm not really a JavaScript person, I'm wondering if there are opinions
from people on this list on how to handle this situation.
Fingers crossed,
Andrew
PS, I'm not on this mailing list, please Cc replies to me.
