Hi David,

Thank you for offering your help. If you want to test your applications
with Java 8 the best is to install a Debian sid or testing environment
with the openjdk-8 packages [1] and the modified java-common packages
which default to OpenJDK 8 [2].

An alternative is to download the official Java 8 release from the
Oracle website and turn it into a Debian package with java-package (0.53
or higher) [3]. This will work on any environment.

So far we have identified the packages that fail to build with Java 8,
but there are probably runtime issues too. So more testing is welcome.
