It's fine for me.

It's not a real issue, we can always get previous revisions using
svn/git/$your-prefered-vcs features.

AFAIK, being a "member" of debian java team is just :
- a subscription to debian-java@l.d.o for discussion
- a subscription to pkg-java-maintainers for bugs reports [1]
- a r/w access to svn/git repositories [2]
