Hi Fabian

There are a lot of packages already in Debian, which could use a hand.
You are more than welcome help us with these packages. [1] and [2] are
more or less all the public java packages you can work on without asking
for permissions.

Basically, you can just pick a package from these lists that is older
than the upstream version and try to build the new version.

Alternatively you are always more than welcome to fix RC bugs (see [3]),
though they may be very hard to fix.

Just check out the package from the java team's VCS (in most cases SVN)
and start working on it.

You may also want to join the java IRC channel on irc.debian.org
#debian-java; currently our java policy is very outdated, so you are
usually better off talking with other Java-maintainers.

Last but not least; while the wait may have seen long (I remember having
that feeling for my first package), all of us are volunteers spending
our spare time on this - it is not uncommon for us to be busy for a a
couple of days or even a week. It is not that we are not interested,
just that we are busy.
