Hi, I've got java2-runtime installed via sun-java5-jre. Nevertheless, when I try to install tomcat5.5 via "apt-get install" or "aptitude install", it still wants to install gcj/ecj packages even though java2-runtime is already provided and is mentioned in the Dependencies: of the tomcat5.5 package: java-gcj-compat-dev (>= 1.0.30-5) | kaffe (>= 2:1.1.6-3) | java2-runtime The Provides: field of sun-java5-jre tells me: Provides: java-virtual-machine, java2-runtime Why do both apt-get and aptitude still want to install the packages ecj-bootstrap ecj-bootstrap-gcj fastjar gcj-4.1-base gij-4.1 java-gcj-compat libgcj-bc libgcj-common libgcj7-0 libgcj7-jar Thanks in advance for enlightening me on this issue. Kind regards, Holger
