I tend to disagree... i am doing my Numerical Mathematics course in Java and 
compiling it with GCJ.

And, in the near future i want to make a Debian package for the Chemical 
Development Kit (cdk.sf.net), and use GCJ to compile it... This should stress 
test both the CDK libs *and* the (Debian) Java Policy...
