Telefono usb

Probabilmente e' gia' stato chiesto, ma in archivio non ho trovato nulla, cosi' provo lo stesso a chiedervelo in lista
Ho una debian testing, kernel 2.6.15-3
Vorrei usare un telefono usb con skype ma non riesco a farlo vedere dal sistema, quando inserisci il telefono il /var/log/messages dice

ho poi provato a fare un
cat /dev/urandom > dsp<n>
con n >= 1
in alcuni casi mi dice che non esiste il device, in altri non mi dice nulla ma nella cuffia non si sente nulla... avete idee?
