e forse c'eri quasi alla soluzione...

Sempre da dmesg ti dovrebbe dire che device il kernel ha associato
alla fotocamera: prendi per esempio il caso quando accendo l'hd del
backup:

ho due partizioni sda1 ed sda2. Tu sei sicuro che il kernel ti monti
la fotocamera come sda1, il device associato al mountpoint che poi
usi?
