ma nonostante tutto penso che il problema sia proprio del kernel debian 
intallato di default, come indicato nel:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=279979

appena capisco come installare un'altro kernel usando la knoppix (che 
funziona!!) faccio lo stesso tentativo: monto un smp. Poi vi aggiorno
