Far partire un comando all'avvio

Salve a tutti
vorrei sapere come si fà a far partire un comando all'avvio,
per intenderci l'equivalente dell'autoexec.bat del vecchio dos,
dove venivano messi i file e questi venivano lanciati....
PS.
esiste un file che fa questo mestiere?
credo che su redhat dovrebbe essere la rc.local...debian?
