apt-get su macchina vecchia

Salve, mi sono trovato nella sala server una macchina con su una debian
2.0... non veniva upgradata da anni :-)
ho fatto un apt-get update ed ecco l'output:

Get http://http.us.debian.org stable/contrib Packages
Get http://http.us.debian.org stable/main Packages
Get http://http.us.debian.org stable/non-free Packages

che cavolo e' successo? se poi do' un apt-get upgrade:

Updating package status cache...E: The cache file
/var/cache/apt/srcpkgcache.bin is corrupted
E: You should probably re-run apt-get update

come posso upgradare questa macchina?
