Disattivare avvio automatico dei demoni (Curiosità)

Salve a tutti.
Solitamente quando voglio evitare che un servizio mi parta in automatico
seguo questa procedura:

cd /etc/init.d/
mv apache apache.ORG
updater-rc.d apache remove

Ho fatto l'esempio con apache perche', nel mio caso, lo avvio solo quando
voglio testare alcune pagine e non mi va che sia sempre attivo.

Esiste forse qualche metodo piu' raffinato per conseguire lo stesso
obiettivo?
