have you tried the Debian From Scratch CD[1]? i've found it very useful
- it has drivers for all sorts of obscure hardware, so it might have
qlogic drivers (if not, there's dfsbuild which can build a custom DFS
CD).

it's not quite the Debian Installer, but is, IMO, better in some ways
- especially if you like to get your hands dirty during an install and
make a few custom changes.
