You may also want to have a look at www.lighttpd.net as an  
alternative to
Apache depending on how important performance is with your application.

Although lighttpd is IMHO not really faster for the FastCGI stuff, the
static deliver screams! and you don't have the 2000 thread problem
as you do with Apache.
