Building your own kernel gets a lot less interesting when you're trying to support 5 or more hardware platforms with the same kernel. The Debian build is designed to support pretty much anything, Just Works, and you don't have to worry about the security updates. The only time I don't use the stock Debian kernel is when I need a newer version than what Debian provides, and then I usually grab it from backports.org. M
